Host Family – Plus
The host family plus package offers students a slightly higher comfort level than the standard option. For example, your bedroom might be larger while the home generally provides more comfort, such as a courtyard, a terrace, or a small garden. In addition, the food is more adapted to the student’s desires, and host family Plus packages include a laundry service (through YACHAY) once per week.
The host family plus is especially suited for those who want to be away from the bustling city center and enjoy a bit more comfort in the city’s more quiet residential areas. The host families that offer the ‘plus’ services to live a bit further away from the city center, still offering the option to be at school within 25-35 minutes. Meals with a Host family
Most Peruvian people do not have an extended breakfast (desayuno). They will service you bread with coffee or tea, or some days with milk or fresh fruit juice. During some days, there will be something extra like an egg, cheese, or avocado. Yoghurt is a bit more expensive in Peru.
Lunch (almuerzo) is the largest meal of the day for the Peruvian people and usually is very family orientated. During lunch you will maximize the opportunity to practice Spanish and learn about local culture while also enjoying traditional Peruvian food.
Lunch takes mostly place between 13.00 and 15.00. There might be a starter or a soup; Peruvians love soup. For the main course, most dishes will be served with rice, potatoes and noodles. Peruvians do eat a lot of meat, but there are some great vegetarian dishes too. A few Typical Peruvian dishes – not all daily meals – are: Tallerín con Pollo, Lomo Saltado, Ají de Gallina, Pollo al Horno. A popular fish dish is Trucha. Popular Peruvian ingredients are ají (hot peppers), garlic, unions, quinoa, potatoes, tomatoes, eggs, rice and more.
